Homestead

Our Homestead

We are on only an acre, but we are not letting that stop us. We are limited on a few animals, but we can still make our homestead work. It's taking us longer than I thought to accomplish what I had in mind to do, but my husband keeps reminding me that it's different today then it was back then. They didn't have a full time job like we have to now. Then come home and have to put more hours in on the farm. We have come along way from where we started. My husband works a full time job, 2 landscaping jobs (on call), and he has a side job at home working on cars etc. on top of the farm. I homeschool our 4 children and run a daycare in my home.
We have a goal, to get started on a small homestead, learn as much as we can, because in 2 years we want to have this home paid off to buy more land to have a full functioning homestead.  We want to have more then a few sheep, goats, turkeys, and have a few steers, a cow,and some horses. We want it to be self sustaining. Meaning all the livestock some how pays for it's self.  This where we are from Spring 2012- Fall 2013

Orchard
We added 2 plums trees, 2 apple trees, 2 cherry trees, and 2 peach trees. It doesn't stop there.
4 Blue berry bushes, 2 elderberry bushes, 6 grape vines, and i still need to add more grape vines next year.

Livestock
3 sheep, 3 goats, 1 turkey, and about 40 chickens.

Garden
1 very large garden.

Gas Station
Yeas you read it right we have set up a gas station area for the trucks. As soon as I can get a picture i will post about it.

Coop
That can hold 40 plus chickens, and a stall added to hold the goats. Finishing this up labor day.

Mini Barn
Built a mini barn that was from an old foundation that held a horse at one time. The Sheep will love it. Plus there is a hay loft to store our hay. Finishing this by winter.

Shed
Has slowly been converted to a feed Shed and brooder for baby chicks.

On top of all of these projects we have added 2 more that is to help the value of our home in the future. Pictures coming.
