The Outside of the box Gardening.....

What we get each year along with some veggies.  :(

The old way we garden for years.
Every year we plow our garden and we get more weeds then food. Let me tell ya so disappointed. I am to the point that I want to give up on our garden plans, but each I put myself through the torture. A friend told me about this website on a new way to garden. it was a dream come true. Is it possible that this could work. I can't stand to fail again.

Planted and pulling weeds. Still looks good.

Weeding and planting

Buddy helping mommy to weed. The weeds are starting to
get out of control.

Our proof we need God answers us in ways and times we don't expect.

This is a squash plant that for some reason the kids threw in here.
It was thrown in the back of a pickup truck my husband needed to work on.
The dirt you see here was added by the tree it parked under for months.
Leaves, twigs, and bark that has fallen from the tree.
This plant has not been watered, planted, and it's been in partial shade. It is thriving quite well.

What you need first is WOOD CHIPS. Yep wood chips. Wood chips act as the cover to protect your soil.
Next save up your newspapers. Weed the area you are going to be using as your garden. Mow the area as well. Place the newspaper down 4 pages thick and we found that if you water the paper it will stay where you put it. After that if you are starting this in the fall you will not need the compost or a good rich soil. You would just add about4-6in of wood chips on top of the newspaper. Let it go over the winter to break down and you will have a good base to get started in the spring. You can add a fertilizer on top of the chips that way it has time to break down and it's ready for the spring. If you need to plant in it now all you do is add 4ins of compost on top of the paper, then wood chips. Pull back wood chips and add seeds in the compost (NOT in chips). As the plant grows add chips around the plant.

We were only able to get a small patch of garden done this year. Just to many
projects going on. WE will be ready for next year.
you can see there are no weeds like you see on the side.
It was so much easier and quick to pull weeds.

This is what our squash plant looked like during the hottest
part of  the summer. We did NOT water our garden at all.
It will take a few years to get a very good base established. When your plants are healthy the bugs and diseases will not bother your plants. Each year your garden s gets healthier and healthier.
